Sweet Jar Easel Cards

 

Aren't these easel cards made with the Sweet Jar Bundle so fun?!  I saw a picture of a birthday and Valentine version made by Karin Braxton that inspired me to give them a try!  The Sweet Jar Bundle is currently on the last chance list, so grab it before it's gone!  I made the following Easter card version on a recent Facebook Live.

These are the measurements in inches for this card:

• Coastal Cabana card base: 5-1/2 x 8-1/2, on 8-1/2" side, score at 4-1/4
• On the front panel of the card, cut in 1-3/8" from each side from the bottom of the card to the middle score line (best understood by watching the video).
• Turn the card and score only the middle section of that front panel at 2-1/8 (best understood by watching the video).
• Flirty Flamingo: 3-1/4 x 4-1/2, die-cut a large arch (4th die in) with the Everyday Arches Dies
• Basic White: 3 x 4, die-cut an arch (5th die in) with the Everyday Arches Dies
• Easter Joy DSP (Designer Paper): 1-1/8 x 4 (cut 2)
• Basic White (inside panel): 2-5/8 x 4
• The "Happy Easter" sentiment came from a past Paper Pumpkin kit--Sweet Springtime, Feb. 2024
• To make the "jelly beans," stamp the image in Smoky Slate ink, but stamp off first so it's very light. Then color over the top with Stampin' Blends.

The following Valentine version was made using the new Made with Love Designer Series Paper, with Real Red cardstock and ink, plus Flirty Flamingo ink.  The little hearts are from the Loose Valentine's Assortment.  The sentiment on the front came from a past Paper Pumpkin kit as well--Lovely Lavender, Jan. 2024.

The following St. Patrick's Day version was made using the Florals in Bloom Designer Series Paper, with Granny Apple Green and Garden Green cardstock and ink.  I used the Traditional Sparkling Sequins to decorate the card (also on the Last Chance List). The sentiment on the front came from the Confetti Birthday Kit (retired now from the Kit Collection). 

This Easter version uses the same products as the first card, but the DSP is a different pattern.

Hershey Nugget Box & Storybook Friends

 

Today I am sharing with you the mini box for Hershey Nuggets once again. I have been making variations of this little box for years.  It takes so few materials and is fairly easy to make.  I made this Storybook Friends version for the guests at my recent craft retreat.  I think they would be perfect to slip into an Easter basket, maybe with some folded up money inside for an added bonus!

You can see a video of me making this box below.  I also show more features of the Storybook Friends suite collection, including what can be die-cut from the DSP and what can be fussy-cut.  The measurements for the box are below.

Measurements in inches:

• Start with a 6 x 6 piece of DSP (I used Timeless Plaid)
• Cut 2" off one side, then take this piece and trim it into four strips measuring 1 x 3 (these will wrap around the Hershey nuggets)
• Take the remaining  4 x 6 piece and score 5/8" in from all four sides
• With 6" side at the top, score at 2-5/8 and 3-1/4
• Fold along all your score lines and look for the side of the box that is slightly bigger than the other side. Punch a 1/2" circle on the front flap of this side to remember it is bigger and make it your box lid (shown in video)
• To see how to put the box together, I recommend watching the video.  You can skip to the 8:15 minute mark for that part.
• I used a 2" circle punch to punch out images from the Storybook Friends DSP.
• The little strip I stamped the greeting on is 3/8" tall, trimmed down to fit the word length

I made 40 of these boxes for my retreat guests.  This isn't the greatest photo, but if you want to see all 40 of them, here you go! It was fun to match up the different pictures with the different plaid colors.

Following is another fun fold card we made at a recent team Shoebox Swap.  My team member, Amy O'Leary, planned this fun project for our group.  She found the tutorial from Susan Campfield, who is the queen of fun fold cards.  You can see her samples and tutorial video for the "Side Tower Pop Up" card HERE.

It folds flat for mailing and fitting in an envelope.

The following cards are some simpler cards we made at my Bingo class a couple of months ago.  If you have this paper, but not the stamps, you could easily make this card with alternate greetings.

The colors on these cards are Old Olive for the top card and Brocade Blue for the bottom card.  The veggie DSP measures at 2-1/2 x 4.  I decided I wanted a white mat around the strawberry DSP which measures at 2-3/8 x 3-7/8.  The white mat is 2-1/2 x 4.  I used a mix of Basic Beige and Basic White for the circles and greeting pieces.  The little critters come from the page of pre-cut images on one of the pieces of DSP.

Peek-a-boo Spring Cards

 

Spring is coming!  I personally love the snow, but sunshine and flowers make me smile too.  I'm glad I live in an area with four seasons!  Today I want to share the measurements for making peek-a-boo cards, also known as shutter cards.  When you open these cards up, the shutters slide to reveal a fun surprise.  I don't know who invented this "wow" card, but I first learned how to make it at a class with Michelle Suit.  We made something similar to the penguin card below, using the retired Snow Place stamp set:

A couple of years ago, I taught a specialty card class where we made the following version with the retired set--Spirited Snowman:

I love the Christmas peek-a-book cards, but it was time to try a Spring version!  I used the new Springtime Joy stamp set combined with Paper Blooms DSP for one card (Sale-a-bration paper) and Hydrangea Hill DSP for the other card.

These are the measurements:

1. Card base (Highland Heather): 5-1/2 x 8-1/2; with the 8-1/2 side at the top, you can score in 2-1/8 from each side, or score at 2-1/8 and 6-3/8.

2. Front DSP panels: 1-7/8" x 5-1/4" (cut two)

3. Inside window panel cardstock: 3" x 5-1/2"

4. Inside DSP to attach to the window panel: 2-3/4" x 5-1/4". Attach this piece to the cardstock piece first, then die-cut a circle out of it to make the window.  I used the Layering Circle Dies 2-3/8" circle.

5.  Inside shutter pieces: 3-1/2" x 4" (cut two).  With the 4" side at the top, score 1/2" in from one side.

6.  Next you need to draw and cut your shutter pieces (packman-mouth-looking).  Take each piece you cut in step five; with the 4" side at the top, use a ruler to measure UP 1-3/4" and OVER 2" from the non-scored side.  Make a dot with your pencil, then draw a line from that dot to each corner of the non-scored edge to form a triangle.  Cut that triangle piece out.  (This is easier to understand if you watch the video at the 8:28 minute mark)

7.  Inside white piece to stamp your peek-a-boo image: 3" x 3".

8.  Belly Band (optional, I did a belly band on the blue card but not the purple card): 1-1/4" x 10"

9. You can decorate the front however you want.  I used the Layering Circle dies to cut a white 2-5/8" circle.  I used the scalloped die from the same set to cut a Misty Moonlight circle slightly bigger.  I stamped the image in black and colored with Stampin' Blends--Light Petal Pink and Light Flirty Flamingo for the face; Light Highland Heather and Light Granny Apple Green for the flowers and leaves; Light Seaside Spray for the shadow around the lamb.

Although this peek-a-book card takes a little more time and care to put together, it's a fun card that will make the recipient go "wow!"  My challenge for this week is to make a peek-a-boo card yourself and post it on the Happy Stampers with Marsha Facebook group by March 9th using the hashtag: #peekaboo.  I will do a drawing for a $5 class coupon on March 10th.
