Pretty Squares Card Pattern

I love a great card pattern that can be used over and over again with different DSP (Designer Series Paper).  I saw cards with this pattern on Pinterest made by Lorraine Terney and Jean Heavrin, but there wasn't a tutorial, so I just came up with my own way of doing it (and my own name for it).  I wanted to try it in all the new In Colors.  I used the new Bloom Boutique Designer Series Paper that highlights the new colors.

These are the measurements (in inches):

• DSP: Cut three 1" x 3" strips in 3 different patterns, then cut each strip into a 1" square (you will use both sides).
• White layer (top): 3 x 4-1/4
• Colored Cardstock (middle): 3-1/4 x 4-1/2
• White layer (bottom): 3-1/2 x 4-3/4
• Card Base: 5-1/2 x 8-1/2, score at 4-1/4

Nests of Winter Fun Fold Card

 

Hello Everyone!  I wanted to share a fun and simple fun fold card idea with you today.  I learned about this fold from Susan Campfield, she called it a Double Dutch Door fun fold.  I made this card with the wonderful Nests of Winter Designer Series Paper (DSP). The dies in the coordinating bundle perfectly cut the bird images from the DSP in the card shown below. The other birds (cardinals shown above) need to be fussy cut from the DSP.  You can watch me make this card on Facebook HERE, or click on the YouTube video below:

For this card, you open the top first, then open the bottom "doors" to see the inside.  The sentiments I used on both the front and the inside came from the Merriest Trees stamp set.

Measurements for this card (in inches):

• Gray Granite: 4-1/8 x 8-3/4, score at 5-1/2
• Gray Granite: 2-1/4 x 8-1/2, score at 2-1/8 and 6-3/8
• DSP (Pool Party): 3-1/8 x 4 (front) and 1/2 x 4 (inside)
• DSP (birch pattern): 2 x 2-1/8 (cut 2)
• DSP: Die-cut or fussy cut the bird images for front and inside
• Basic White: 3-1/2" square to die-cut a circle with Deckled Circle Dies, then emboss with Birch Wood 3D Embossing Folder)
• Basic White (greeting strip): 5/8 by 2-1/4 (or however long your sentiment is)
• Basic White (inside): 4 x 5-3/8

Easy DSP Card Pattern with a Surprise Inside

I love to find a card pattern that has minimal stamping, features DSP, and can be used over and over with a variety of different papers.  This kind of card pattern is perfect for those who get Paper Shares where you get a sample of all the papers in a catalog and need ideas of what to do with it.  I think you will definitely want to give this one a try!

To make the front of this card, you only need a 3"x 3" piece of DSP, which means you can get 4 cards out of one 6x6 sheet.  You can stop there and keep it simple, or you can give the inside pop-up surprise a try.

3x3 DSP Card Measurements in inches:

• DSP: 3 x 3
• Mat behind DSP: 3-1/8 x 3-1/8
• White layer: 3-1/4 x 4-1/2
• Mat behind white layer: 3-7/16 x 4-11/16 (or 3-3/8 plus a 16th x 4-5/8 plus a 16th)
• Card base: 5-1/2 x 8-1/2, score at 4-1/4

Insert card for the inside to have a pop-up:

• Base: 8 x 5, score at 4
• On the back side of the card, go from the middle score line 1" to the right and 1" to the left and put a small pencil mark.  Then go down the center of the line 2" and put a mark.
• To make it easy to see in your paper trimmer, I recommend marking on the side that will be attached to the card and drawing a pencil line where you are going to score.  Then put it in your trimmer and score over the lines you drew.
• Fold as shown and add little cut out images to the part that is folded in so they pop up when the card is opened (easiest to understand on the video).

As I mentioned before, you can keep it simple and skip the pop-up inside piece.  I went to town making a bunch of cards using this design with different papers.  These are the papers I've tried so far:

Trusty Toolbox DSP, greeting from Throughout the Year stamp set

Rock & Roll DSP, greeting from Throughout the Year stamp set

Lighter than Air DSP, greeting from Hot Air Balloon stamp set

Softly Stippled DSP, greeting from Go to Greetings stamp set
